The employer is looking to hire a highly motivated and organized individual with 5+ years of experience to join our enterprise software, development team. Technical Skills/Qualifications

  • C# .Net Development experience in Visual Studio
  • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
  • Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • SQL Server or equivalent relational database experience
  • Understanding of software architecture design and development best practices

Business Skills/Qualifications

  • Highly adaptive and capable of being an individual contributor as well as working as part of an extended team
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and respond to frequently changing priorities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science\Software Engineering (or equivalent job experience)
  • Strong written communication skills in English, communicate effectively
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience

  • Background with Electric\Gas utility concepts and operations
  • Geographical Information System (GIS) experience (ESRI, G-Tech, Smallworld)
  • Experience with Web Services, REST, Asynchronous programming, Azure, Xamarin, Android\IOS, C++, F#, XML, JSON, DevOps, and COM are also beneficial

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to team success in a Scrum development environment
  • Design and develop software applications that conform to technical design specification requirements
  • Test, troubleshoot, debug, and maintain existing software and database solutions
  • Create technical documentation on new design and enhancements.
  • Work with source control and defect tracking systems
  • Analyze and help resolve software related issues from customer support team
  • Estimate time, effort and steps required for development tasks

GeoSpatial Innovations, Inc. (GSI), is looking to hire a highly motivated and organized Application Engineer (Forester) to join our Software Delivery team. GSI is a 25-year-old software company with a global customer base, benefits, and a work atmosphere where an individual’s contribution is rewarded, appreciated, and developed. We provide software products and services to electric and natural gas utilities throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia.  

Position Description

The role of an Application Engineer (Forester) is to be a subject matter expert as it pertains to GeoSpatial Innovations, Inc. (GSI) Utility Vegetation Management solution.  The ideal candidate will have experience in GIS, Vegetation Management, and Customer Relations.

The primary role of this position is to be a key contributor with regards to the GSI Forester Vegetation Management solution and GSI’s efforts for development, testing, and customer acceptance for current and future iterations of the software solution.  Tasks will include mentoring and training customers and co-workers, facilitating requirements and configuration workshops for new customer deployments, testing software applications, customer data verification, and training documentation generation. This position does require travelling to customer sites to perform some of the above-described tasks.

High Level Job Purpose

  • Provide project leadership during customer implementation of GSI Forester Vegetation Management software.
  • Provide technical product expertise during customer implementation of GSI Forester Vegetation Management software.
  • Perform various configuration tasks within the software application for specific customer requirements.
  • Ensure product and configuration are correct and ready for production use at the customer site.
  • Provide on-site support and expertise for successful project implementation completion.

General Duties

  • Support GSI’s Vegetation Management Sales Team and Customers with enthusiasm, positively representing GSI’s brand in various settings.
  • Perform testing to support development team and increase knowledge of the product.
  • Prepare and present product demonstrations to existing and prospective customers.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to create and update marketing collateral.
  • Support RFP/RFI responses.
  • Represent GSI and provide technical support for trade shows and conferences.
  • Lead training sessions and design communication material for customers during the development phase of the vegetation management software application.
  • Interact effectively with GSI team members and GSI’s Utility Customers.
  • Support GSI and their customers through other duties as assigned.
  • Travel to customer locations to conduct various duties such as project leadership, training, and/or coaching, as needed.
  • May require occasional work outside of traditional hours to meet deadlines, attend company events, or travel.

  • Excellent support of customer needs both internal and external.
  • Ownership and completion of assigned tasks based on customer and team needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to GIS, Forestry, or Electrical Engineering or relative experience in Utility Vegetation Management.
  • Motivated, self-starter with ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment.
  • Enthusiastic, outgoing, well-spoken, and quick to learn.
  • Highly adaptive and capable of being an individual contributor as well as analyzing and solving problems in a team environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and respond to frequently changing priorities.
  • Must have a high degree of initiative, ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
  • Understanding of software development process to actively participate in product testing and enhancements.
  • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused attitude.
  • Able to communicate professionally (speaking, writing, emails, and presentations).
  • Comfortable speaking to large groups in person and virtually.
  • Interact with customers to determine implementation requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Facilitate training for customers of GSI’s Forester application.
  • Technology experience in GIS software development (or sales) is a plus.
  • Have experience working as a part of an Agile software development team.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
